As the owner and manager of Tate Builders, Inc., Thomas E. Tate caters to clients who want unique, luxurious homes on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. The island is known for being a popular vacation spot among celebrities, but budget travelers can enjoy a visit to the island, as well. Hostelling International, an organization that Thomas Tate supports, helps budget travelers achieve this goal through its hostel on Martha’s Vineyard.

Hostelling International runs more than 4,000 HI Hostels in 80 countries. HI Hostels are popular among backpackers, gap-year travelers, traveling students, and even families who are vacationing on a budget. HI Hostels can be found in almost every major city, including places like San Francisco and New York, where budget accommodation options are hard to find. Prices for a nightly stay vary by location, but the cost of a bed is generally between $15 and $45 dollars. In addition to charging low prices for beds, HI Hostels help travelers save money by providing them with a kitchen to cook meals. Laundry facilities, free Wi-Fi, and secure lockers are also common amenities found in HI Hostels.

Martha’s Vineyard resident Thomas E. Tate has served as president and owner of Tate Builders, Inc., for over three decades. When he is not overseeing the construction of custom homes throughout the island, Thomas Tate supports multiple charities, including the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

As a member of the Massachusetts Region of the Red Cross, the American Red Cross of The Cape, Islands and Southeast Massachusetts provides services to more than 1.27 million individuals from the counties of Barnstable, Bristol, Plymouth, and Dukes, as well as the islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. The chapter regularly engages with the surrounding communities, such as through the annual Heroes Breakfast program.

The American Red Cross Heroes Breakfast has been held every April since 2002, and for the last several years it has been hosted by the Resort and Conference Center in Hyannis. Every year the Heroes Breakfast honors 20 or so local individuals who have provided critical support, saved a human life, or in some other exemplary way given back to their communities during the previous year. Recent editions of the event have generated donations approaching $30,000. For information on future events visit the chapter’s page at http://www.redcross.org.
